The projects funded by the Rural Development Programme have had positive effects in terms of the everyday lives, wellbeing and comfort of people in Lapland

The ELY Centre and local action groups of Lapland have supported the development of rural regions in Lapland with projects and business support. MDI conducted a study of the impacts of the Rural Development Programme in Lapland 2014-2020. The study focused on issues of everyday life, well-being and comfort.

The ageing population requires solutions implemented by both the municipalities and welfare regions — a new study examines the functioning of the municipalities and welfare regions in terms of housing and housing services for the elderly

According to projections, in 2040 there will be 200 municipalities in Finland where more than a third of the municipality’s population is over 65 years old while in 16 municipalities, the share of people over 65 will be more than half of the municipality’s population.

The report brings together information on migration strategies in the regions

In Finland, no comprehensive nationwide data has traditionally been available on provincial immigration strategies. The report, prepared by MDI, commissioned by the Ministry of Employment and Economic Affairs and funded by Sitra, provides a full picture of the current education and work-based immigration policy preparation of Finland’s regions.

Climate change requires adaptation and impactful action in the regions — MDI drawing up the Kymenlaakso adaptation plan

Climate change is a threat to human health and to our planet’s ecosystem more generally. The United Nations International Climate Panel IPCC published the second part of its major climate report dealing with the effects of climate change, adaptation to change and vulnerabilities, in February 2022. The main message of the report is clear: action to adapt to climate change and reduce emissions is needed right away.
