Constructive interaction as a factor supporting well-being

MDI evaluated “The constructive interaction in support of mental health” -training and development project. The project was managed by Suomen Moniääniset ry and financed by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations (STEA). The partners of the project were Kokemus- ja vertaistoimijat ry from Seinäjoki and The Finnish Central Association for Mental Health.

Structures and attitudes slow the development of women’s knowledge work in rural areas

In Finland, women’s knowledge work is strongly centred in urban areas. In rural areas, the importance of the education sector in women’s knowledge work has been significantly emphasised, but at the same time, the centralisation of education provision reduces the number of such jobs available in rural areas. The results of the UUTTU-project, announced on June 17th 2022, state that the promotion of women’s knowledge work in rural areas requires the further development of the rural workplace structure, addressing the challenges of careers and identifying women-specific issues. In the research project, the factors promoting and hindering the opportunities of new work in rural areas were studied from the women’s point of view.

MDI analysed the effectiveness of Ylä-Savo Veturi’s programme period 2014–2020 – The unifying factor was the diversity of influences

MDI carried out an impact study by order of the development company Ylä-Savo Veturi ry. In the study, the results, effects and effectiveness of the projects that received a decision during the programming period 2014–2020, were investigated along with their significance for the region’s vitality. In addition, the study examined the factors and mechanisms affecting successful implementation, as well as the importance of the projects in terms of the applicants’ own activities.

Information for municipalities and new national policy instruments for steering climate change mitigation and the circular economy in the municipalities

National goals in respect of preventing climate change and boosting the circular economy require strengthening. This entails the creation of viable solutions and indeed the adoption of a new approach in the municipalities. Based on the National Urban Strategy, a preliminary study has been produced which considered a number of potential policy instruments for climate and circular economy work. For the municipal level, the publication provides information on what kinds of instruments already exist, while for the state level, it suggests a number of new ideas for prospective policy instruments.

PhD thesis defence: Urbanisation lacks vision

Ilppo Soininvaara (M.Sc.), MDI’s specialist in urban development and politics, researched for his PhD thesis the policy of urbanisation in Finland. The PhD thesis illustrates the development of urbanisation, the related political debate and various strategic interests. Soininvaara defended his thesis on May 25, 2022 at 12 noon at the faculty of science of the University of Helsinki. The thesis’ subject is “The politics of urbanisation – From a global imperative to national struggles”.
