The Innovations in Tampere – Platform for Growth project is an ambitious initiative aimed at establishing Tampere as a globally recognised pioneer in sustainable innovation ecosystems. At the heart of the project lies a strong vision: to develop Tampere into a world-class environment for testing, piloting, and demonstrating solutions — one that attracts both domestic and international actors to experiment, develop, and commercialise their innovations in real urban settings. During the winter of 2025–2026, MDI carried out a study on the current state of Tampere’s test platforms. The study covered all existing physical and virtual test platforms, their use, the services they provide, and their maturity level. The objective was to produce a comprehensive overview of the current situation, identify development needs and opportunities for test platform activities, and propose concrete measures to improve and enhance the use of these platforms.
