URBAN PROSUMERS – towards a knowledge transfer hub for empowering citizens as producers and consumers of sustainable solutions to climate-neutrality

The URBAN PROSUMERS project supports the implementation of the EU’s Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission in the Tampere Region. Funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, the project aims to strengthen the role of higher education institutions as central actors in transdisciplinary sustainability research and practical action. It applies citizen science and participatory research methods to engage Tampere residents and local stakeholders in developing solutions for sustainable mobility, food systems, and energy.

Tampere’s higher education institutions are responsible for building and coordinating the knowledge transfer hub and integrating it into their strategic work. The project will generate new theoretical and practical understanding of the ‘prosumerism’ model, providing a scalable example of participatory climate action for other Mission cities in Finland and across Europe. MDI is responsible for the project’s communication and societal engagement aspects.
