Final Evaluation Summary of the Smart City Project (Fiksu Kaupunki)

MDI conducted the final evaluation summary of the Smart City Project to Forum Virium Helsinki. The work produced a summary based on the indicator data of the Smart City Project, outlining the progress, achievements, and impacts of the project.

The Smart City – Helsinki Innovation Districts project was launched in November 2020 and concluded at the end of 2023. The smart city development model, developed in Helsinki’s Kalasatama, was applied in the project to urban renewal areas: Mellunkylä, Malmi, Malminkartano, and Pasila. At the same time, new urban services, innovations, and businesses emerged.

As part of the evaluation, interviews were conducted, a working meeting was organized, and a summary presentation of the key findings of the final evaluation was prepared. The work was based on the evaluation model and indicators prepared for the Smart City project in early 2021, which was supplemented with information produced in two interim evaluation summaries. The work also provided insights into how development work should continue after the project’s conclusion and what lessons from the project’s implementation could be highlighted for the future.
