Final Evaluation Summary of the Smart City Project (Fiksu Kaupunki)

MDI conducted the final evaluation summary of the Smart City Project for Forum Virium Helsinki. The work produced a summary based on the indicator data of the Smart City Project, outlining the progress, achievements and impacts of the project.

The Smart City – Helsinki Innovation Districts project was launched in November 2020 and concluded at the end of 2023. The smart city development model, developed in Helsinki’s Kalasatama, was applied, in the context of the project, to urban renewal areas: Mellunkylä, Malmi, Malminkartano and Pasila. At the same time, new urban services, innovations and businesses emerged.

As part of the evaluation, interviews were conducted, a working meeting was organized and a summary presentation of the key findings of the final evaluation was prepared. The work was based on the evaluation model and indicators prepared for the Smart City project in early 2021 which was supplemented with information produced in two interim evaluation summaries. The work also provided insights into how development work should continue after the project’s conclusion and what lessons for the future have been learned from the project’s implementation.
