Building a vision for Herttoniemi district

The Herttoniemi district vision was a pilot project in which the designers and the residents of the area together created the future of the district. The vision process made it possible to participate in the long-term planning of one’s own everyday environment and created a new way of working together for urban development. MDI carried out workshops. The result of the work was a shared understanding of what the Herttoniemi district future will look like and how that future can be achieved. The vision work was linked to three projects in the area: 1) mapping the need for schools, kindergartens, youth facilities and other public spaces, 2) designing streets, parks and green areas and 3) preparing the design principles for the supplementary construction plan in West-Herttoniemi.
