Preparatory project for a flagship project in urban aviation – Situational overview of drones and urban aviation in Finland

The development of urban aviation in Finland has been active in several cities, including Helsinki, Vantaa, Tampere, Oulu and Seinäjoki, but from a regional perspective the development remains fragmented and uneven. Forum Virium Helsinki has launched a preparatory project aimed at addressing the current fragmentation in the sector and the lack of national coordination. The objective is to create an Innokaupungit-led flagship project to respond to these challenges.

The study conducted by MDI mapped the current state of urban aviation in Finland and produced insights to support the preparation of a national flagship project. The study provided an overall picture of the current state of urban aviation, identified key development needs and opportunities, and presented concrete measures and an action plan for advancing urban aviation in Finland in the future. The study consisted of four mutually supporting work packages: document analysis, surveys directed at stakeholders, expert interviews, and a stakeholder workshop.
