Children and youth, questions over space and places and cultural vitality within the cultural plan – MDI supports the preparation of Jyväskylä’s cultural plan

MDI supported the city of Jyväskylä in the preparation of its cultural plan. The cultural plan functions in unison with the city strategy.

Several joint working sessions were organised to support the preparation of Jyväskylä’s cultural plan. These consisted of workshops on crystallising the strategic goals of the plan, as well as joint visits and working sessions in local cultural facilities for the municipal councillors and freelance artists. Moreover, the working group dealing with the cultural plan was also able to get acquainted with the principles of impact modelling while considering the measures required to promote the plan’s desired effects.

The cultural plan has been prepared in close dialogue with the preparation of the city strategy. A municipal survey was also carried out to support the preparation of the cultural plan. The results of the survey guided the formulation of the plan and its strategic alignments. A steering group was also appointed for the preparation of the plan which included representatives from the culture and sports board, artists and leaders of the city’s cultural institutions.

Three focus areas were formed in Jyväskylä’s updated cultural plan for the years 2022-2025: children and youth, issues of space and places and cultural vitality. Jyväskylä’s goal is to focus on these themes in developing the city and its cultural life in the next few years. These three themes contain common measures for the plan period. The three themes can also be found in the city strategy.
