Vitality and Population Development Assessment of the Urban Settlements in Hausjärvi

The study examined the vitality and future demographic development of Hausjärvi Municipality and its various urban settlements. The study comprised a comprehensive analysis of observed development, a population forecast, and an assessment of broader impacts. In addition to the municipality as a whole, the study covered several urban settlements within Hausjärvi as well as sparsely populated areas.

The analysis of observed development aimed to establish an understanding of the structure of population and employment development in the municipality, as well as broader socioeconomic trends, and to identify key characteristics of the municipality’s development. In addition to the municipal level, the same themes were examined across the municipality’s internal areas, revealing significant differences in the development of individual urban settlements as well as the effects of previous investments.

Future population development was examined through a forecast based on historical trends, with several scenarios developed to account for the anticipated effects of planned investments in the surrounding area on local population development. Based on the forecast, differences between the municipality’s internal areas were projected to continue to widen, due to factors including differences in the areas’ attractiveness, age structures, and the varying impacts of investments in the surrounding area.

Finally, the study assessed the broader implications of the projected development for the vitality of the municipality and its individual areas, as well as the rationale for future investments.
