Update of the Situational Report on Population, Housing and Socioeconomic Conditions in Kerava

MDI updated a comprehensive, statistics-based assessment previously prepared for the City of Kerava on the city’s population, housing and socioeconomic conditions. The analysis covered both the city’s overall development and current situation, as well as development within the city. The city-wide development was examined in comparison with other municipalities in the KUUMA region and municipalities located along the railway corridor. Development within the city was analysed at the level of neighbourhoods and statistical areas.

From the perspective of population development, the analysis examined the demographic structure, key characteristics and internationalisation of the city and its individual areas.

Socioeconomic conditions were examined from the perspectives of employment and unemployment, as well as the need for and use of different forms of social support. The analysis also considered differences in income and educational structures between the city as a whole and its individual areas.

In terms of housing, the analysis examined the size structure of households, forms of housing and tenure.

Finally, the city’s development was examined using indices measuring spatial and social segregation. The report’s summary assessed the city’s current situation and differences across the various dimensions examined, comparing the results of the updated analysis with those of the previous study. The findings indicate that Kerava’s socioeconomic development presents some challenges and differs negatively from that of other municipalities in the KUUMA region. Within the city, there are substantial differences between neighbourhoods, and Kerava can to some extent be characterised as spatially and socially differentiated across several dimensions.
