The supply potential of the population outside the labour force

The Finnish National Agency for Education is investigating the availability and supply of skilled labour. Those outside the labour force represent a structurally diverse group of the population, whose consideration as part of the labour force supply is important. Based on different statistical sources, MDI analysed the various groups of the population outside the labour force and specifically, the structure, development and supply potential of these groups. In the work, the population outside the labour force was examined separately for students, retired people under 75, those at home with children and other groups outside the labour force. The supply potential was examined according, for example, to previous education and structural factors such as age or place of residence. The end result was a report based on statistics on the structure, development and supply potential of Finland’s population outside the labour force. The work is one of the three options in the MDI & Owal Group’s report on the possibilities of immigration from the perspective of a skilled workforce for The Finnish National Agency for Education. Owal Group was responsible for the other two options. Together, the three options form one publication, which examines labour availability and skills from different perspectives.
