Study of the attractiveness factors of Seinäjoki

MDI carried out a study of the attractiveness factors of the city of Seinäjoki. The analysis took into account the competitive advantages of the area, the structure of the population and migration, paying particular attention to the perceived attractiveness of, and the willingness to move to, Seinäjoki as well as how familiar the city is to non-residents. In the 2010s, Seinäjoki received the 9th largest migration gain with only the largest cities in Finland gaining more. The challenges faced by Seinäjoki include the limited amount of in-migration it attracts, the small proportion of foreign-born residents it has combined with its relatively weak image recognition. The city of entrepreneurship should invest in soft attraction factors to lower the threshold involved in moving to Seinäjoki and develop a more open and inviting urban image.
