Population projection of Kurikka

MDI created population forecast for city of Kurikka. As part of the population forecasting work, three models were developed to project the future population development of the City of Kurikka, both for the city as a whole and for its nine sub-areas. The division into nine sub-areas enables the development of the city’s different urban centres and rural areas to be examined separately.

The models differed in their assumptions regarding the pace of population development in the city. The weakest scenario described a continuation of development broadly similar to the current trend, while in the two other scenarios, the future population development outlook for the city was assumed to strengthen.

As the outcome of the forecast, a population development model was produced for each sub-area of the municipality, covering the period from 2025 to 2050 and broken down by single-year age groups. Based on the forecast data, a report was prepared describing past population development to provide context for the forecast, future development, and the impact of future population development on the city’s different age groups.
