Front page Plans for developing town centres Plans for developing town centres Date: 15.10.2017 –31.3.2018 Strategies and programmes Four municipalities in the Upper Savo region sought to boost their attractiveness and vitality by developing town centres. The city of Iisalmi and municipalities of Lapinlahti, Sonkajärvi and Vieremä had conducted a survey to scan the thoughts and ideas for the development of services in the town centres from inhabitants, businesses and other stakeholders earlier this spring. MDI carried out an intensive process to the municipalities resulting in the development plans for town centres in each municipality. Based on the desk study, the process culminated in “centre hackathon”, where the contents for the development plans will be outlined. Keywords: Cities Municipalities Regional development Vitality
