Front page Future housing needs of elderly population in Sastamala Future housing needs of elderly population in Sastamala Date: 1.6. –8.8.2025 Information Services and Data Analysis Research, studies As part of a focused supplementary assignment, an assessment was conducted of the housing situation of Sastamala’s older population and future housing needs. Earlier in 2025, a comprehensive assessment of Sastamala’s future population development had been prepared at both the city-wide level and across the city’s internal areas. The results of this population forecast were further examined from the perspective of the older population, both for the city as a whole and for individual areas, with the projected development contextualised through an analysis of observed population trends. Based on the population forecast, a calculation of the projected development in the number of households consisting of older residents was prepared. On this basis, a quantitative estimate was made of changes in the housing needs of the older population for the period 2025–2040. As in the broader analysis, the assessment of housing needs was conducted both at the city-wide level and across the city’s internal areas. The projected development in the number of households was also used to estimate the need for new housing construction for older residents across the city as a whole.
