Analysis of the vitality of the Tampere region

MDI conducted a vitality analysis for the Tampere city region and the owner municipalities of Business Tampere (Tampere, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Vesilahti, and Ylöjärvi) commissioned by Business Tampere. The analysis was carried out on a rolling basis during 2024 and 2025, utilizing the vitality, attractiveness, and retention (EVP) index developed by MDI and FCG.

The regional and municipal-level analysis included an examination of the position of the entire Tampere region using the EVP index in comparison to other benchmark regions (maps, charts, and narrative analysis), as well as separate analyses for each of the eight municipalities. The municipal analyses explored the temporal development of the EVP index and provided detailed insights into the variables underlying the index. In addition, the absolute and relative developments of each municipality’s vitality, attractiveness, and retention were analyzed in relation to the development of the Tampere region and other comparison municipalities.

An automatically updating summary view of the EVP index was also produced for Business Tampere and the municipalities, embedded via Power BI on Business Tampere’s and interested municipalities’ websites. The analyses were compiled into easy-to-read PowerPoint reports, allowing Business Tampere and the municipalities to utilize both the regional summary and municipality-specific reports according to their own needs.
