In the future review of South Karelia, four scenarios were created for the province

MDI conducted a future study of South Karelia which outlined four different future scenarios for the province. In addition, a common vision for the province up to 2040 was created. The scenarios prepared in the work describe the different threats and opportunities impacting on success.

The work was carried out as an interactive process that included five extensive workshops, three of which focused on examining change drivers related to skills, collaboration and renewal in the province. In addition, work was done in one virtual workshop while a separate ‘seminar for the future’ was organised for the provincial council. Processes already under way in the province were also widely utilised. The work was based on foresight methods (including the foresight table) and interaction methods that increase mutual understanding, such as the Timeout-dialogue.
