Update on Suomi 2040 -study

As part of a short update assignment, the model developed in the previously conducted Finland 2040 study for estimating the space requirements of care facilities was updated based on the latest available data and projections of future population development.

The update was based on a population forecast of the future development of the older population at the wellbeing services county level, together with data on the floor area of care facilities across the different wellbeing services counties.

The update first involved calculating the impact of changes in population size and age structure on the need for supported housing services. Based on this, an estimate was produced of the resulting space requirements relative to the current situation across all wellbeing services counties. The analysis was expanded by modelling the development of space requirements under different levels of service coverage, as well as by calculating the implications of increasing the proportion of the population covered by services within different age groups.

The results were presented in a concise PowerPoint report.
