Formulation of the International Riihimäki Action Programme

MDI supported the City of Riihimäki in the preparation of the International Riihimäki action programme which aims to serve as a roadmap for advancing the city’s internationalisation and the strengthening of its vitality.

The programme was developed through an interactive process involving broad participation from the city administration and other key stakeholders. The process included the creation of a situational overview based on statistical and document analysis, stakeholder interviews, an online survey, and three facilitated workshops. In addition, children’s views were collected through activity stations held during a session of the Children’s Parliament. The process was designed to enable meaningful participation by residents with a migrant background: the survey was partially available in English and Ukrainian, with one workshop also being held in English. The process was guided and monitored by a steering group appointed by the city.

The final outcome was a concise and communicative action programme including strategic goals, concrete measures and a monitoring framework, designed to support the city’s decision-making and operational work while strengthening Riihimäki’s appeal to international talent and stakeholders.
