Study on the Development of Housing Policy

MDI was responsible for a research project focusing on how Finnish housing policy should be developed, particularly in the metropolitan area, and how the current support tools for housing have succeeded. Housing policy is viewd as the key concern in the metropolitan area, where significant housing bottlenecks are caused by high housing costs and the lack of availability of affordable rental housing. Housing subsidies are often also the subject of criticism. The aim of this study was to provide information to help decision-makers understand how it would be possible to increase the positive effects of cost-effective housing policy. The client was the Parliament’s Auditing Committee. MDI’s research partners were Seppo Laakso and Henrik Lönnqvist.
