Analysis of carbon sinks and storages in the Central Finland region

The study examined the current state and future development of carbon sinks and storages in the Central Finland region. It considered the entire land use sector (LULUCF) and followed the calculation method used in the national greenhouse gas inventory. The current state assessment was carried out through geospatial and statistical analyses at both municipal and regional levels. The scenario for the development of the region’s carbon sinks described assumed development trajectories according to the baseline scenario, the increase in the use of wood raw materials, and circular economy-based forestry.

The work was led by Jan Tvrdý, Director of Urban Planning at FCG. Ella Stark, Henri Korhonen and Marko Nurminen were also involved in the project.
