MDI is involved in exploring opportunities to encourage cities and municipalities in their climate and circular economy measures

Municipalities have a critical role to play in climate change and circular economy work. The current Finnish Government has set an ambitious goal for a carbon-neutral Finland by 2035 and for example, more and more enterprises see regulations on emissions and biodiversity as a factor in competitiveness.

MDI is carrying out a study tasked with  encouraging cities and municipalities in respect of their climate change and circular economy measures together with Tyrsky Consulting Oy and Valonia. The report is commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment.

The aim of the study is to outline what new instruments could add value to promote both national climate policy and circular economy objectives and also the climate and circular economy actions of cities and municipalities. The report evaluates the various implementation approaches used in relation to the instruments and considers the ‘pros and cons’ of the different options.
