Culture and the Arts

Culture brings places to life, enhances their appeal, and creates meaningful connections for both residents and visitors. Municipalities and regions are often defined by their cultural identity – their events, architecture, character and vibrant streetscapes. At MDI, we see culture as a cross-cutting force.

What Do We Do?

We have worked in the cultural field at the national, regional, and local levels – always with a client-driven approach. Our work combines strategic planning, vitality development and the practical development of cultural services.

We support municipalities and regions in planning, evaluating, and developing cultural activities. Together with our clients, we shape cultural services and synthesise diverse perspectives into clear and impactful frameworks. We integrate culture with other key policy areas – both strategically and in practice.

Culture is a vital part of wellbeing – and research shows it increases participation and strengthens communities.

Cultural Programmes and Strategies

We help municipalities and regions develop cultural programmes, plans and strategies. We identify shared goals and translate them into clear and actionable plans. Our approach takes into account local structures, stakeholders and available resources.

Impact Assessment and Indicators

We produce insights and analyse the operating environment. We define impact pathways and test relevant indicators. Cultural impacts are integrated into the broader monitoring of vitality and wellbeing.

Participation and Co-Creation

We facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration and co-development. We listen to a wide range of actors and bring their perspectives together. We ensure that cultural activity is built on shared understanding.
