One million Finns live in approximately 50 small and medium sized cities, which are 2nd or 3rd tier cities in their respective regions. Development of these cities is vital for regional development, as these cities are important service centres and potential local growth motors. Ministry of Employment and the Economy is launching a pilot programme to develop these small and medium sized cities. MDI arranges workshops for the cities in May and in autumn and organises a kick off session for the pilot procedure in January 2014.
