The four Robocoast consortium provinces are the core area of Finland’s manufacturing export industry.

MDI carried out a study for a consortium of four provinces in Western Finland (Robocoast EDIH), compiling a regional ‘snapshot’ of innovation potentials and digital capabilities. The consortium includes Central Finland, Satakunta, Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia. The work is related to the current preparation of the EU’s digital innovation hubs. The consortium consists of the University of Vaasa, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK), the University of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK), Centria University of Applied Sciences, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) and UC Pori – Data Analytics Research Group. The coordination organisation is Prizztech Oy.

The Robocoast consortium is applying for EDIH (European Digital Innovation Hub) status which will be the main driver of the Digital Europe programme to be launched in 2021. The programme aims to support companies in deploying new digital solutions such as artificial intelligence, robotics, high-performance computing, IoT and cybersecurity. The European Commission selects Finnish EDIH organisations on the basis of a proposal from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

The aim of the Robocoast consortium’s activities is to develop the growth and competitiveness of the Finnish manufacturing export industry and its subcontracting chains, as well as to attract top experts and investments.
