MDI updated the Urban Network Study that has monitored and developed the national urban network and Finnish urban regions for 20 years (1995, 1998, 2001, 2006). The method, a statistical analysis, was kept as unchanged as possible to make longitudinal comparison (1995-2013) possible. According to the study there are now 30 functionally relevant urban regions. The number of regions has dropped, but there are more strong regional centres than in the mid-1990s. The Urban Network Study, its background articles and statistics (in Finnish) can be found on www.mdi.fi/kaupunkiverkko.
