Study of the reasons for moving from Lapland

In Lapland, as in other regions, the key future issue is the adequacy of a skilled workforce. The starting point for the project was the knowledge that emigration from Lapland occurs particularly in the 17-28 age group. There are many assumptions about the causes of emigration, but less researched data. The study identified the underlying causes by age and occupational group, municipality and gender where possible. In addition to statistical analysis, the survey captured more qualitative factors such as attitudes and the attractiveness of municipalities.
The main dimensions of the analysis are as follows:
– migration by age group and gender
– reasons for moving from Lapland
– reasons to stay in Lapland
– reasons to return to Lapland
