MDI and the Finnish Environment Institute analysed Finland´s functional areas and growth corridors in the ToKaSu project. The project was one of the joint government research projects designed to generate information that supports decision-making. The goals of the projects were to identify functional areas and growth corridors and to analyse the state and development of these regions, to find out what kinds of factors affect the location decisions of business and people´s decisions on where to live etc. In addition, the study findings included recommendations for supporting the development of functional areas and growth corridors. In spring 2016, the research team focused on the general description of development, the identification of the functional areas and growth corridors and on international case studies. The ToKaSu project was finalised inFebruary 2017.
