Fast Eastern Railways – their impact on regional economy, using data visualisation

MDI provides an evaluation of the impact of fast railway in Eastern Finland including a data visualisation. The clients of this project are the cities of Kouvola and Porvoo. Fast railway in Eastern Finland is a direct railway line from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Kouvola via Porvoo that considerably shortens travel times to these areas and the cities of Joensuu and Kuopio etc., in Eastern Finland. For the evaluation, a study of previous research about the wider economic impacts of infrastructure projects on the regional economy was carried out. Based on prior research, MDI created an analysis (including a data visualisation) of the wider economic effects of and the impact on regional development that the fast railway would create. The evaluation and data visualisation was concluded in January 2019.
