In the survey, MDI with Owal Group, investigate immigration and migration flows from the point of view of labour availability in the labour market. MDI is responsible for the statistical review of the survey. The statistical review is based on free, paid and separately ordered data on immigration and emigration in the 2010s, the status of foreign-speaking people in the Finnish labour market and the area movement and placement in the workforce of the foreign-speaking population after education.
The statistical review consists of three workshops and a summary of each. The first workshop will look at immigration and emigration flows in the 2010s. The analysis is based on separate data that enables migration flows to be examined through different background variables which diversifies the picture and understanding of migration flows and the impact of migration flows from a labour market perspective. In addition, the possibility of examining other phenomena related to immigration, such as seasonal work, international commuting and humanitarian migration.
The second stage of work examines immigrants and foreign-language speaking people in Finland. The subject in review is the development and structure of the foreign-language population at the provincial level, employment and unemployment of foreign language groups and migration within the country. The review is based on two separately ordered materials.
The third work package examines the placement of people with foreign backgrounds, from education to work, as well as regional placement in relation to the education province. The third package is based on data from the Finnish National Agency for Education's statistics service, Vipunen.
This will, ultimately, result in a quantitative analysis of migration flows, the key trends associated with this and the position of foreign languages in employment from the point of view of access to labour in employment. MDI's output is accompanied by a qualitative analysis undertaken by Owal Group. This report provides additional new information on the importance and opportunities associated with immigration from the point of view of access to labour and broadens our understanding of migration flows both at the national and regional levels.
